Reports Suggest Strong Building Forecasts for 2016

Mar 25, 2016 | Construction Accidents, Slip and Fall

Around the country, there have been some favorable forecasts for the construction industry. According to ENR online, there is currently a strong demand for construction throughout the U.S. But there are also some significant construction booms going on in local economies.

A July report from the Wall Street Journal shows an increased demand for construction in New York City, with over 42,000 permits issued for housing units in the city during the first half of 2015. One trade expert calls this an astounding figure and says we’re “headed into the stratosphere” with an unprecedented building boom.  The WSJ story further talks about a tax abatement program that can also spur development.

Still, what’s often left out of these conversations is the key role of workplace safety precautions. Too many companies and developers don’t seem to understand that as a housing boom commences, or some other construction demand rises, it’s absolutely critical to put more focus on construction site safety and overall workplace safety. Why? Because these types of environments tend to lead to a type of “hurry up and go” attitude that can raise injury and fatality rates.

Additionally, front-line workers often feel pressure to perform for their employers, which can cause managers and others to ignore safety requirements for the sake of expedient building and bigger profit margins. However, safety should never go by the wayside, not in slow times, and not in high-demand times either.

New York personal injury attorneys work hard to represent injured construction workers after an accident has occurred. They know how many of these accidents involve safety violations and how many of them are characterized as preventable by state and federal regulators. They know how to do the specific fact-finding for an injury case, as well as how to evaluate it for potential compensation. They help injured workers and their families understand all of their options for bringing an injury claim forward in court. These experienced lawyers are the voices for those who have been tragically hurt because of someone’s negligence or carelessness.
