NEW YORK: Five Kayakers Were Injured In A Boat Accident After They Were Hit By A Ferry In The Hudson River

Aug 31, 2016 | Boating Accidents

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (August 30, 2016) – Five people were injured after their kayak was struck by a ferry boat in the Hudson River by 40th Street near Pier 79., according to CBS News.

One of the people that was injured is in stable condition after sustaining a severe arm laceration. The other 4 people are believed to have only minor injuries. Rescue workers immediately rushed to the scene in order to treat those that were injured.

It still remains unclear how the accident happened. The driver of the ferry may not have seen the kayakers. Witnesses say that the sun was low at the time of the collision. The NYPD Coast Guard did a sobriety test on the captain of the ferry, but he tested negative for alcohol.

Our staff at the RMFW Law Firm would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the victims of this boat accident. We encourage the New York Police Department to conduct a thorough investigation for the sake of all of those involved.
